Gary's classes, while designed to be continuing education classes for psychotherapists, are open to anyone interested in the topic.
Following is a list of upcoming events:
The Essential Skills of the Group Psychotherapist
April 22, 2006, 10:00 - 4:30 PM
July 15, 2006, 10:00 - 4:30 PM
Cost: $95
Since most human problems are interpersonal, group psychotherapy is often the most effective treatment. Yet, most psychotherapists receive little training in group facilitation. Leading a group requires a distinct set of skills. This six-hour class teaches an approach to group therapy, based on effective communication skills. This new competence will enable a facilitator to guide a group in developing a positive therapeutic group culture. Participants learn, review and practice specific group psychotherapy interventions applicable to a broad range of theoretical orientations.
The Hearts of Men
May 20, 2006, 10:00 - 4:30 PM
August 26, 2006, 10:00 - 4:30 PM
Cost: $95
More men are participating in individual, group and family psychotherapy. However many therapists continue to see men as difficult to engage as clients. Perhaps some of this is due to a lack of sufficient experience and understanding of men’s emotional lives. This six-hour class will explore new understandings of men’s psychological development and the male mode of feeling. Participants learn approaches to psychotherapy that make it more relevant and acceptable to men. Men and women are welcome.
Training Group for Group Psychotherapists
An opportunity for advanced training in the art of group psychotherapy, this ongoing training is designed for licensed psychotherapists, interns, trainees and other qualified professionals interested in learning more about group leadership. We meet as a process oriented group for the first hour and a half and then discuss the group process, exploring the thinking behind the interventions. Group meets Fridays, 12:30 – 2:30 PM, starting March 10, 2006. MFTs and LCSWs earn 2 CEUs for each week.
